IT'S A BIRTHDAY WISH FOR BRAM AND IS HOLLYWOOD PUPPETEERING THE DEAD?

BORN TODAY November 8th 1847 in Clontarf, Dublin, Republic of #Ireland… we mark the BIRTHDAY of  #BRAMSTOKER, creator of #Dracula and a hundred thousand nightmares! #HappyBirthday, Mr Stoker!!!

BACK IN 2016, for some it was an act too hard to accept. #PeterCushing's Grand Moff Tarkin featured nearly 20 years since his passing, kind of live and kicking courtesy of mega bucks CGI, presented on the big screen in the #StarWars epic, Rogue One. In a cinematic series where the footing is firmly rooted on a fantasy and other worldly canvas, those who wanted to embrace could. This week #Hollywood has announced the arrival of another CGI resurrection, in #JamesDean. Dean will be recreated in an action drama entitled #FindingJack through a mixture of old footage and computer-generated creations projected over stand-ins, as a secondary character called Rogan. The producer Anton Ernst said he will try to keep Dean's “legacy firmly intact”.

AND AS IN  the case of Peter Cushing, the 'estate' or family are on board. “We feel very honoured that his family supports us,” he said. “The family views this as his fourth movie, a movie he never got to make. We do not intend to let his fans down.” says Antin Ernst. Zelda Williams, daughter of the late actor and comedian #RobinWilliams, accused the producers of “puppeteering the dead” while #LordoftheRings actor #ElijahWood tweeted a simple “NOPE” in response to the news, while #Avengers star #ChrisEvans wrote: “This is awful... the complete lack of understanding here is shameful.”

OVER AT THE FACEBOOK PCASUK FAN PAGE we are asking what your opinion on this?! . .. Should the Cushing Tarkin CGI appearance be seen as an interesting 'one-off' and a good try, totally necessary to help embellish and tell the story of Rogue One . . Is this a CGI trick too far, bringing James Dean, once more to the big screen??

JUST WHO IS BEHIND THAT EAGLE COMIC?

I LOVE this figure of Peter Cushing as Dr Who from his first Dalek movie in 1965, 'Dr Who and the Daleks' 🙂 It's playful and I think captures the intention of Cushing and the film producer Milton Subotsky all those years ago. This is the fabulous work of sculpture Robert Price, who we have featured here before. These photo's don't belong to me, neither does the figure, as much as I wish it did, it's one of Robert's many private commissions.

ROBERT SAYS AT HIS TUMBLR ACCOUNT, 'A great challenge to make and certainly one of the more intricate and fiddly pieces I’ve ever made. Never made a comfy chair before!t was very interesting working with different media- if you count paper as a different media. The Eagle comic came together beautifully. Many frustrations and dark-nights of the soul- fretting it would never be finished or good enough when it was complete. I’m very happy with it now and will be sad to let it go!'

WELL, YOU ARE A VERY TALENTED ARTIST and very well done, Robert! I certainly look forward to see and sharing more of your work in the future here! MORE please 😉😊 - Marcus

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: COMBAT AVENGERS ANNIVERSARY AND GIFS!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: DURING THE 1960-70's Peter Cushing made quite a few short, blink and you'll miss em appearances in several films, Scream and Scream Again, Dr Phibes Rises Again are but two. One here's another you may want to add to your list... Trial by Combat ' / 'A Dirty Knight's Work' / 'A Choice of Arms' made in 1976 is odd, even by tome of the choices made by Cushing's agency at this time.. 'Hitler's Son', 'A Touch of the Sun'..it would take more than the space we have here to explain the dotty 'plot', it stars John Mills and Donald Pleasence, who must have regretted signing on that dotted line, when it was too late. Peter just had two days, did his bit and left for 'The Devils Men' and . . . 'Battle Flag'....! Thankfully, a little role in 'something' called Star Wars turned up and save the year! Would be great to hear from anyone who has sat through this....!

#THROWBACKTHURSDAY: BROADCAST ON FEBRUARY 21st 1968 Return of the Cybernauts, brought back a Avengers favorite, along with Peter Cushing for his first appearance.

Cushing and Robert Day director of 'SHE' and 'Return of the Cybernauts' sharing a giggle . . .

URSULA ANDRESS AS SHE ENTERS THE FLAME FOR THE SECOND TIME IN HAMMER FILMS 'SHE' (1965)

THE SUBJECT of our first post today the film, 'Trial by Combat' (1976) give nods to this series, and in doing so, proved just how talented the production team of the series really were. Robert Day who directed this episode, also directed #PeterCushing in the Hammer films, 'SHE' too.....

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY : TARKIN PUSS PUSS AND A HOWLING WOLF

#GIMMETHEGIFWEDNESDAY: ...and so we happily wheel out our weekly roster of grim and creepy 'ANIMATED GIFS', all cheerfully requested by your good-selves from the films and work of our very own, #PETERCUSHING. First off comes a request from RUTH HELLMAN, for 'Any gif featuring Peter Cushing, but Legend of the Werewolf, would be good;)' . . You've got it, Ruth. Above Peter as Paul Catalque, Paris police surgeon, taking his lunch, among the cadavers, entrails and bits (!!). Chasing werewolves is hungry and thirsty work! The howling wolf or werewolf of this film is one of best make up's, prior 'An American Werewolf In London, which reset the bar. Jack Pierce, make up artist behind Lon Chaney Jr's wolfman was great for its time, But Roy Ashton's Lycanthrop, in the shape of Oliver Reed, was a howling success with the public during the 1960's. In 1975 David Rintoul as Etoile, wore a make up by Graham Freeborn, son of the genius make up artist Stuart Freeborn, who created Yoda and many other of the make up in the #STARWARS series. Stuart was also behind Cushing's 'MEGA-EYE' in the 1984 film, #TOPSECRET.

MARTIN BOUTON sent us a request for Peter Cushing's terrified Wilbur Gray from Milton Subotsky's THE UNCANNY  from 1977. Out of all of the portmaneau films that Peter Cushing appeared in for Amicus and Subotsky, this is the one that gets the least love. I am not sure why. All the others, Vault of Horror, Tales from the Crypt, Dr Terrors House of Horrors, all have that quintessential 'made in England' look. A little like with the television series 'The New Avengers', which at first was  rebooted and 'kitted for the 70's' and made in the UK. The original series starring Patrick Macnee and several capable and classy female assistants, was 'BRIT' from it's bowler hat, umbrellas and tea pots. The same path was kept for the come back series. The moment The New Avengers production was moved to Canada... all the class was lost. Maybe what we see with 'The Uncanny' is the same thing? Made away from blighty, it's just not the same.

#gimmethegifwednesday: last gif of the day... requested by LEXI CONROY : 'Can I request the shot from Dracula AD 1972, where Peter Cushing as Van Hesling comforts his grand-daughter Jesscia after a nightmare! Makes you wish everyone had a grand-father like that! Thank you. '....
